Everything you need to know about CV 2.0 and more!
CV is the abbreviation for “Curriculum Vitae” which in Latin means "course of life". Otherwise known in the USA & Canada as a "résumé", a CV is a summary of a person’s professional and academic experiences assembled for the purpose of presenting oneself to potential prospects, recruiters or employers.
Linkedin works differently from CV 2.0. Here are the main differences: 1. Only users who are already members of Linkedin can access your recommendations. 2. Only members of your Linkedin network can see your recommendations. With Linkedin, you have to ask recruiters or clients not only to subscribe, but also to be part of your Linkedin network. If they are not connected to your network, Linkedin requires that they pay a monthly business membership fee of $20 (USD). Can you really ask recruiters or clients to pay for access to your recommendations?
3. Linkedin pages include advertising. Imagine you apply for a job at Ford and the recruiter sees an advertisement for Toyota on your profile. Will this favor your application or hurt it? If you are a consultant, and you send a business proposal to Apple, how would your client react when he finds an advertisement for Microsoft on your profile? Do you want to take the chance?
4. Your Linkedin recommendations are linked with your Linkedin profile. Recommendations provided within Linkedin stay there. It is not easy to use them in other services or documents.
CV 2.0 is designed to manage your references (through recommendations). Linkedin is designed to connect you with new contacts (through your address book). The two services are complementary and efficient in their respective offers. [Send us your feedback] |
